FAQ

All hand-dyed items are one-of-a-kind gems, so each piece will vary slightly. Please expect color variations. All one-of-a-kind pieces are sold in AS IS CONDITION and minor wear is possible due to their vintage or second hand nature. Photos are included if wear is present. Please reach out and ask any questions prior to your purchase.

RETURNS

What is your return policy?

Please keep in mind that ALL SALES ARE FINAL SALE. While I want you to be happy with your purchase, bear in mind that I am one-woman operation and the nature of dye is unpredictable and fluid. Refunds will not be issued due to a change of mind, color inaccuracies, or imperfections in the dye process. I encourage you to measure yourself prior to purchasing to ensure the correct fit. If the item is faulty, a refund, replacement, or repair will be issued. ALL vintage and second hand pieces from the One-Of-A-Kind and Reverse Dye sections of the website will be FINAL SALE and sold AS IS, despite any wear to the garment. Photos will be included of wear if present.

Upon the receipt of your goodies, please inspect for any damages or defects and notify me within 24 hours. It is possible for a package to be damaged through USPS. Please photograph and save all original packaging if your item is defective or damaged. Replacements for items will not be issued unless the item is defective or damaged.

In the case of a faulty item, please email me at chloegcox@gmail.com and I will walk you through the return process.

I am not responsible for lost or stolen items and cannot offer refunds for these. Please do reach out if this happens. If you are interested in shipping to be insured or signed for, please email me ahead of time to let me know!

WHAT IS ICE-DYING?

Ice-dyeing is the technique I used to dye most of my garments. It involves using ice and powdered dye to create a watercolory effect. Once the garment is prepped, I cover it with ice and sprinkle powdered dye on top. After 24 hours of curing in the sun, the ice has melted and you are left with a colorful ice-dyed treasure.

WHAT IS REVERSE-DYING?

The reverse dyed process involves using bleach to remove the color. In other words, it’s tie-dyeing with bleach. Bleached areas don’t always turn white which makes for a fun experiment. I will often over-dye the reverse dyed pieces for an even more experimental outcome. It is normal for the bleach to leave a scent in these pieces, which will fade with time and washes.

GARMENT CARE

How do I wash and care for my ice-dyed items?

I suggest hand or machine washing your piece separately for it’s first wash, then with like colors thereafter. Sun or tumble dry. All linen or silk pieces should be hung or layed out to dry— not machine dried. Silk is often dry cleaned, but I encourage you to hand wash it. All pieces are washed with hypoallergenic plant-based detergent as a part of the dye-removal process. It is unlikely, but possible for bleeding to occur in the first wash, which is why I suggest washing it separately the first time.

How do I wash and care for my reverse dyed items?

I suggest hand or machine washing your piece separately for it’s first wash, then with like colors thereafter. Sun or tumble dry. All linen or silk pieces should be hung or played out to dry— not machine dried. Because the reverse dye process involves using bleach to remove the colors, there is a possibility that the bleach could bleed onto other clothes in the first wash. All pieces are washed with hypoallergenic plant-based detergent as a part of the dye-removal process.

SHIPPING

All orders are shipping through USPS. I am not responsible for lost or stolen items and cannot offer refunds for these. Please do reach out if this happens. If you are interested in shipping to be insured or signed for, please email me ahead of time to let me know!

Right now, I am limiting post office trips to once a week due to COVID.

OTHER

I only want certain colors included in my custom request; is that possible?

The short answer is no. The nature (and beauty) of dye is truly magic. Each piece is individually dyed using powdered, pigment dyes. This means that there can be several colors comprising each powder and those colors can release in the ice-dyeing process. For example, scarlet is made up of fuschia, orange, and yellow. One or all of those colors can release through ice-dyeing.

While I will try my best to achieve the custom color combo of your dreams, please know that dye is fluid, unpredictable, and random. This is what draws me to dye in the first place and I love that each time I dye, it’s one big exercise in chance, flexibility, surrendering to magic, and letting go of all expectation.

What is your typical turn around time?

Each piece is made to order, aside for a small handful of vintage pieces that are ready to ship. My production time is 2-3 weeks. When the item is done, an email will be sent with shipping info.
